Bedroom Design

Yesterday and today we had to work on designing a bedroom. I collaborated with Arie. Our theme was a Gamer theme. On the left side of the bedroom is the bed. We have put Pac-man sheets on the bed and animator plushies and a Demogorgon plush from Stranger Things.

There is a light blue and dark blue rug and also a TV connected to a PS4 and a Nintendo switch. On the right side on the upper corner is a window bed colored grey and pink and three arcade machines labelled; Pac Man, Space Invaders and Donkey Kong with seats. We had drawn fairy lights of different colors to finish the details around the walls.

My favorite part about making this is sketching the plan. I found it difficult to add more detail towards the middle of the room.

Would you like this room? What would you add?

Poland Country Study

Today for reading we had to research about Poland. I enjoyed this task because I love learning about historical countries such as this one. My favorite slide that I did was researching Warsaw, the capital.

Would you like to go to Poland? Would you visit Warsaw?

Animation and Summary.

Today we had to create an animation and a summary. Above is the animation. I have collaborated with Kade and Louie to make the animation.

Summary:

Opal and her mother are walking onward, towards the source they are longing to find. They have walked for days and are running out of hope. With each deep breath, she taste dust from the crumbling soil. She turns to her mother. "Mum." She says.

Her mother has drifted away. She is sucked into another world. A place, anywhere but where she is. "Get away from the edge, Opal." She says, blinking back tears. Her daughter moves closer towards her mother, towards the middle of the track.

She runs her hand over the smooth clay surface. Her hand slips at the same time as they heard a noise. Somebody had stepped to close to the edge. While everyone but her is distracted, Opal slips through a crack that leads her into a dim cave. All she can hear is her own breathing, not aware of anything going on outside. Suddenly, she steps in something wet. It curls around her ankles, welcoming her. She knows exactly what it is.

The most difficult part of writing this not writing to much because I love writing. Whats your favorite part of our animation? Do you enjoy writing? Have you made an animation before?

Poem

Walt: creatively write and present a piece of poetry.
Our activity today was to write a poem relating to refuges/refugees. My poem is a rhyming poem. I pictured what it would be like if I was in a city that had been bombed. My favourite part of my poem is that part where it says 'We're going to escape, some places that others give.'

What is your favourite part and why?

Missing Child Poster

Today we had to create a Missing Child poster and upload it to our blog. I used Canva to make my poster. This activity relates to the book our class has been reading for the past month. The poster I have created is about Mahmoud's little sister, little brother and father going missing in the Mediterranean sea.

I have included a picture of an animated girl and added the reward money.

What would you set your reward money to? What site would you use to make a poster?

The Storyboard

Today we had to create a storyboard that about the latest scene in the book we are reading. I did the scene where Josef overheard two Stuarts saying if the ship doesn’t make it before the other ships, they might not be accepted into Cuba. He asked the captain who has a worried look before smiling and answering ‘no’.

World Map

Today we had to find out the travelling distance of the character from the book, Refugee. Josef and his family are traveling Germany to Cuba. The distance is 8,036 km. Next is Isabelle and her family. The are travelling Cuba to Florida, Miami. The distance is 531 km. Finally, Mahmoud and his family are travelling from Syria to Turkey. The travelling distance is 780 km.

Where would you go if you left your country? What's the traveling distance?

Spanish Translate

Today we had to translate Spanish words. This is linked to the book we are reading called Refugee. Isabelle, one of the characters in the book. She is from Cuba and speaks Spanish. We had to translate these few words.

Senor - Sir.
Abuelita - Granny.
Manana - Morning.
Son Cubano - They are Cuban.

Converting Money

This is the template we based our answers off:

Today we had to convert Syrian Pounds to NZ dollars. I used an unknown source to convert 2000 and 5000 Syrian Pounds into NZ dollars. Here are my results:

1. In the book ‘Refugee’ Mahmoud’s family was offered a nights accommodation for them all if they paid 2000 Syrian Pounds. We had to convert that money into NZ dollars. The answer is here: 2000 Syrian Pounds converted to NZ dollars is $6.36670.

2. Then, the men in the tracksuits said it would be 5000 Syrian Pounds for a night each. How much would 5000 Syrian Pounds be in NZ dollars? The answer is here: 5000 Syrian Pounds converted to NZ dollars is $15.9209

3. Now we had to convert the prices below from NZ dollars to Syrian Pounds.

Loaf of Bread: $3.30NZD - $1,037.21 Syrian Pounds
Bottle of Water: $1.50NZD - $471.461 Syrian Pounds
Life Jacket: $95NZD - $29,848.64 Syrian Pounds
