What does Respect mean to you?

What does Respect mean to you?

Respect is something that every child should learn at a early age. Respect is very important because if you want to be treated right, then you should treat others that way too.

Something that our class does as respect is Chromebooks. This year, most of our learning is on Chromebooks. When I look around the class I see people walking with their Chromebooks, so they don't damage them if they run and trip up.

Respect, to me, looks like following an instruction when one is given, looking at the speaker and looking after borrowed things when given to you. That is all just basic respect.

Looking after borrowed things is like when someone loans you a pencil. They would expect it back when you finished using it. Biting or snapping the pencil in half is  disrespect and they wouldn't trust you with their pencils again.

Respect is trusting. Someone trusts you with their equipment you should respect their trust and follow it.

So what is respect to you?

  1. Tēnā koe Ella. You have a very well-written description of respect, each idea with it's own paragraph. Well done! I really like the way you have explained what respect is, and given examples of what it may look like.

I wonder, why do you think it is important for every child to learn respect at a young age? Who's responsibility do you think it is it to teach children respect?

Are there any places or environments that you're in often, where respect may differ? For example, does respect look differently on the rugby field, than it does at your friends house? How so?

    1. Thank you Miss Fleet. I think that every child should learn respect because children don't really have respect for the environment or for people either. For example, walking past someone and them saying hello to you without you even answering, that is pretty disrespectful. I think the responsibility should be up to their parents/caregivers to teach them respect.

Respect would normally occur differently at different places. Like for example, every rugby game you're whole team would say 'Good Game' to the other team. That's respect even if you didn't win the game.

And if you see someone you know, I see Dad shake hands with that person. It's just common respect. Everyone should follow the respect for the same reason's that are listed.
